Gum acacia and gum arabic are two names for the same natural ingredient. It is a dried exudate obtained from certain species of acacia tree, principally Acacia senegal and Acacia seyal, which grow across the African Sahel.
Gum acacia has been traded internationally for centuries and today is widely used across food, beverage, pharmaceutical and other applications for its functional properties.
In Europe, gum arabic is also identified as E414.
Both species produce gum acacia, but their functional characteristics differ.
Our Acacia senegal HN grade has high emulsification capacity and is particularly suited to applications including beverages, emulsions, confectionery and pharmaceuticals.
Our Acacia seyal MM grade is well suited to applications including coating, binding, glazing, encapsulation, soluble fibre enrichment and bakery products.
Choosing the right grade depends on the functionality required in your formulation, and our team can help you identify the most appropriate option.
Gum acacia is an extremely versatile ingredient and can perform several functions depending on the application and grade selected.
Typical applications include emulsification, encapsulation, binding, coating, glazing, confectionery, beverages, bakery products, pharmaceuticals and soluble fibre enrichment.
Its combination of functionality and nutritional properties means it can often perform more than one role within a formulation.
Yes. Gum acacia is naturally rich in soluble dietary fibre.
Morouj UK's current specifications for both our HN Acacia senegal and MM Acacia seyal spray-dried grades specify at least 90% soluble dietary fibre.
This makes gum acacia particularly interesting for manufacturers looking to increase fibre content while also benefiting from its functional properties.
Our gum acacia is sourced directly from Sudan, one of the world's most important gum-producing regions.
Working closely with our Sudanese sister company gives Morouj UK direct involvement at origin, providing greater visibility over sourcing, cleaning and the movement of raw material through our supply chain.
The raw gum is then supplied for further processing into our spray-dried products in the UK.
Our raw gum acacia is sourced in Sudan before being brought to the UK for spray drying.
Morouj UK supplies the raw material to our UK manufacturing partner, Superior Powders, which carries out spray drying, packaging and final product release on our behalf. The manufacturing facility operates under FSSC 22000 and ISO 9001 certified systems.
This gives our customers the combination of direct access to the raw material supply chain and UK-based finished-product manufacture.
Morouj UK operates differently from a conventional ingredient distributor.
We source the raw gum acacia used in our products and contract our UK manufacturing partner to spray dry and package it on our behalf. The raw gum supplied for this process remains dedicated to Morouj UK's product range rather than being purchased as a finished product from the manufacturer.
This gives us direct involvement from raw material sourcing through to finished product supply.
Traceability is an important part of our supply model.
Because we work directly with our supply chain at origin and control the raw material supplied for UK processing, we maintain visibility through the different stages of production. Our technical documentation includes both our manufacturing process and traceability procedures.
For customers with specific traceability or supplier-approval requirements, further documentation can be provided.
We supply both raw and spray-dried gum acacia, including products derived from Acacia senegal and Acacia seyal.
Our spray-dried range includes Morouj Spray Gum Acacia HN, an Acacia senegal grade with high emulsifying properties, and Morouj Spray Gum Acacia MM, an Acacia seyal grade designed for a broad range of applications including encapsulation, coating, binding and soluble fibre enrichment.
Technical Data Sheets and supporting documentation are available on request.
Yes. Morouj UK can supply certified organic gum acacia, including organic raw material and spray-dried options.
Please contact us with your required species, application and volume so we can advise on the most suitable organic grade and current availability.
That depends on what you need the gum to do.
For example, applications requiring strong emulsifying performance may benefit from an Acacia senegal grade such as Morouj HN, while applications involving encapsulation, coating, binding or fibre enrichment may be well suited to our Acacia seyal MM grade.
Rather than simply selecting by species, we recommend discussing the formulation and required functionality with us so we can help identify the most appropriate grade.
Yes. Morouj UK's spray-dried gum acacia range is supported by both Halal and Kosher certification. Our wider technical documentation also includes product, manufacturing, food safety and compliance information for customer approval processes.
Copies of current certificates can be provided on request.
Yes. We maintain an extensive technical documentation package covering our products and manufacturing arrangements.
Depending on your requirements, we can provide documents including Technical Data Sheets, Safety Data Sheets, Certificates of Analysis, allergen information, manufacturing information, certifications and a wide range of regulatory and compliance statements. Our current product information pack includes sections covering traceability, HACCP, allergens, GMO status, food safety, contaminants, pesticides and numerous other customer approval requirements.
Our standard spray-dried gum acacia is supplied in 25 kg multilayer paper bags with a polyethylene liner. We can also supply in food-grade bulk bags on request.
For larger requirements or raw gum acacia, please speak to our team about available packaging and delivery options.
